10 Women Who Already Made History in 2023

From actresses, musicians, athletes, and overall inspiring activists, these superwomen have made it BIG just three months into the year.

To support Women’s History Month, we wanted to share some of the incredible women who have already made history this year.

Here are the highlights:

Tems

The singer is the first Nigerian female artist to win a Grammy. She was also nominated for an Oscar this year and secured a Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance with her song “WAIT FOR U,” featuring Future and Drake. The 27-year-old singer also earned an Oscar nom for her contribution to “Lift Me Up” off Black Panther (Wakanda Forever) in the Best Original Song category.

Michelle Yeoh

Actress Michelle Yeoh is the first Asian woman nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress since 1935. Her performance in the sci-fi drama “Everything Everywhere All at Once” has garnered major acclaim in the U.S. and globally.

Allyson Felix Field

U.S. star track and field athlete and women’s rights advocate Allyson Felix earned yet another Gold medal! This award has brought her Olympic medal total up to 11, thus making her the most decorated U.S. track and field athlete in history. 

MJ Rodriguez

Michaela Jaé (MJ) Rodriguez made history at the Golden Globes, becoming the first trans actress to get a standing ovation. She won Best Actress in a Drama Series in 2022, getting her much-deserved live recognition at this year’s awards since the 2022 awards were not televised.

Kim Petras

Kim became the first transgender woman to win the Best Pop Group/Duo Performance category alongside Sam Smith. The duo won the award with their song “Unholy,” which has also gathered major attention on Tiktok and social media.

Viola Davis

Actress Viola Davis won a Grammy Award for her narration of the audiobook of her memoir Finding Me. She became only the 18th person in history to achieve EGOT status by winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award–Wow!

Quinta Brunson

This past year, Quinta took home the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy, for her lead role in ABC workplace comedy “Abbott Elementary.” She’s also made history as the first Black woman to be nominated three times in the Emmys comedy category.

Beyonce

We know Beyonce has been making history for quite some time now. But, this year, not only did she get her 21st top 10 single with her song “Cuff It,” but she is now officially the most awarded artist in Grammy history!!! She’s got a total of 32 wins.

SZA

SZA’s new album “SOS'' has gone viral all over social media for its honest lyrics and boppy tunes. This is the first female RnB album to spend seven weeks in a row at #1 on the Billboard charts. Her SOS tour will also take place this year, and tickets are selling fast!

Rihanna

We all saw Rihanna’s mind-blowing performance at this year’s Super Bowl. After being away from the stage since 2018, Rihanna is the first pregnant woman to headline the Super Bowl halftime show, and let’s just say it was iconic!
