Come On Collective, It's Time to Try Something New!

"To get something you never had, you must do something you've never done." ~Unknown

Hey, Collective!

Did you know trying something new can improve your overall mental or physical wellness? It's true!

Clinical psychology resident in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at UW School of Medicine, Juan Pablo Zapata, encouraged people to try new things during a post-pandemic interview with the UW School of Medicine.

"Studies suggest that people who engage in a variety of new experiences are more likely to retain positive emotions and minimize negative ones," says Zapata

When we try something new, whether it be a different type of exercise or even something as simple as trying new foods, we stimulate our brains and challenge ourselves in a new way. This can lead to increased excitement and accomplishment, which leads to an improved sense of well-being. In other words, doing or seeing something new can activate and trigger dopamine pathways, which makes us feel good and rewarded.

So don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone occasionally and try something different. Who knows, you may discover a new passion or interest along the way!

Undecided on What New To Try?!

Here are ten new activities you can try that just may give you the adventurous, luxurious self-care experience you've been looking for:

  • Listen to an interesting podcast.

  • Go on a mini-vacation or plan a staycation alone and away from home.

  • Walk around your neighborhood after eating dinner.

  • Go out with your camera and take amazing photographs.

  • Update your vision board-It's Quarter 2 of 2023; where are you on your journey to achieving these things? Trying something new can be completing an activity from your vision board too!

  • Meditate, sit still, ignore the mind's chatter, and listen to your soul speak.

  • Go indoor skydiving, rock climbing, or go-cart racing.

  • Learn a new skill, such as a language, or start a side hustle like a crafting business.

  • Give yourself an hour a day of "Me Time." Try adding a new product to your self-care routine that requires time. Soak in the bath using Pink Himalayan Epsom salt or a new face mask.

  • Take yourself on a date to a social setting in your local area: a bar, club, restaurant, or coffee shop. Go out, don't be shy–meet someone new, tell a stranger, "Hi."

Try an activity that requires you to dedicate your time to mastering it. Or, you can try an activity that requires nothing but to be present. It's ultimately about the activity you're willing to do! If your chosen activities require more discipline, try dedicating an hour a week to your new activity. With patience and persistence, you may be surprised at how quickly you pick up new skills and discover hidden talents. We're thrilled to share that trying new things does not have to be overwhelming. Embarking on a new adventure can be incredibly exciting and rewarding! Begin by taking small steps toward something that intrigues you.

Above all hive , please remember that the most important thing is to be flawed from the start but to keep moving forward with curiosity and enthusiasm. So why not take the leap? Who knows what amazing opportunities and experiences await or how high you'll soar!
